Why is research important?

Research gives us new knowledge, which in turn helps us advance further, and this is important. Researchers work on many questions that may help us solve problems in future. Many useful inventions are a result of years of research. Then there is applied research, which is dedicated to a specific problem right from the start. For instance, researchers are drilling in the ice of the Antarctic. With the help of drill bits they can see the climate as it was thousands of years ago and how it changed suddenly. This helps them draw inferences about the future climate.
