Albumin

Albumins were originally classified as proteins that were soluble in a 50% saturated solution of ammonium sulphate. Albumins (five separable proteins) account for approximately half of the protein in blood plasma. Plasma albumin plays an important role in regulation of osmotic pressure. Bilirubin, free long-chain fatty acids and a number of steroid hormones are found bound to albumin.
