Algae

Plant-like organisms that possess chlorophyll a in combination with other chlorophylls or accessory photosynthetic pigments, and have minimal differentiation into defined tissues or organs. They range from single microscopic cells to among the tallest organisms known (giant kelps, c. 40 m) and are mainly aquatic, with some tolerating periodic or prolonged exposure to air.
