Why do some patients need to be operated upon?

Operations are done when the patient cannot be treated with medicines or any other aids. While some operations are planned beforehand, such as the removal of  tonsils, some are done on an emergency basis, such repairing serious injuries caused by an accident. In both the cases, the patient is anaesthetized, so that they do not feel any pain during the operation. In case of internal injuries, such as rupturing of the liver or spleen, the patient must undergo immediate surgery to avoid serious problems like internal bleeding. Often , blood transfusion is necessary during an operation so that the ongoing blood loss does not worsen the patient's condition. In such cases, blood donated beforehand by others is given to the patient.
