Acetyl-CoA

Acetyl coenzyme A, CH3 ·CO·SCoA, is the metabolically active form of acetate. It is produced in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids and some amino acids. Free acetate is converted to acetyl-CoA in the cytoplasm of cells and utilizes coenzyme A and ATP in its production. (NJB)
