Where is inland navigation carried out?

Inland navigation is practiced in those places where there are large views, lakes, streams, and inland canals. In the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, and China, inland navigation plays an important role in transport and communication. It is an economical alternative to rail transport, but is slow and also dependent on the water level and weather conditions. In some countries, inland navigation is paralyzed during the winter for quite some time owing to freezing of rivers; in summer, inland navigation is hampered if the water is too flat.
