Who were the Wright Brothers?

In December 1903, Orville Wright, an American flying enthusiast, took off from the ground on his self-made airplane kitty Hawk and covered a distance of 36 m within a duration of 12 seconds-an achievement, which his brother Wilbur was able to improve upon the very same day. The brothers practised this feat near the Atlantic coast in the state of North Carolina-a place known for its strong, uniform winds. They strengthened the wooden frames of their double-decker airplane with wires and covered it with cloth. During the flight, the pilot had to lie on the lower wing near the engine. Two propellers pushed the flying device from behind and helped to lift it in the air.
