The silk route was one of the most important trade routes. It is-like many other trade routes-named after the main trading product transported on it. Other examples are the salt route and the incense route. The spice route was also significant because ships brought valuable spices from India and southeast Asia to Europe. The extensive trade routes of the Traders guild called Hansa helped cities like Hamburg and Lubeck become rich.
