Why are the rainforests under threat?

Every day more than 3000 sq. km of area is cleared or burnt to get land for pastures, cultivation, timber plantation, colonies, and roads. Because of this the animals are driven out of their habitats. This has happened to the orangutans, the Sumatra rhinoceros, and the tigers, Clearing the area is often pointless. For example, agriculture on the nutrient-poor rainforest soil is possible only for a few years, after which again new forest area has to be cleared. Even at the places where natural resources are abundant, no importance is being given to the nature: Excavators rip open the Earth, and wide roads for transportation of goods are made through the forests.
